October has arrived, and while everyone else is busy putting pumpkin spice in everything they can get their hands on, we’re taking a slightly different approach to fall flavor.
We’re bringing the heat.
This month, we’ve got a brand-new sauce joining the crew, a couple of fall events on the calendar, and plenty of excuses to add hot sauce to your favorite cold-weather foods.
So grab a bottle, put on something spooky, and welcome aboard.
Meet Serrano Seadog
There’s a new sauce joining the Black Eyed crew.
Say hello to Serrano Seadog, a brand-new collaboration with Camera Guy Bill and one of the most unique sauces we’ve had the pleasure of putting in a bottle.
Built around the fresh flavor and heat of serrano peppers, Seadog follows the philosophy behind everything we make: big flavor first, with just the right amount of fire following behind.
A very limited number of bottles recently made their first voyage north of the border at GoatFest in Kitchener, Ontario, giving a lucky few the chance to be among the first to get their hands on one.
But the Seadog isn’t staying in port.
We’re getting ready to unleash Serrano Seadog on the rest of the world soon. We’ll have more information about the official release, where you’ll be able to find it, and how you can get a bottle of your own.
Keep an eye on us.
This dog is about to have its day.
October Means Festival Season
The weather might be cooling down, but our event calendar definitely isn’t.
We’re hitting the road again this October, and we’ve got two more opportunities for you to come hang out with the Black Eyed crew, taste some sauce, and stock up for the colder months ahead.
Rivers of Fire
If there’s ever been an event with a name that sounds like it was made for Black Eyed, Rivers of Fire might be it.
We’ll be rolling in with bottles, seasonings, samples, and plenty of heat. If you’re coming out, stop by the booth, say hello, and taste your way through the lineup.
Whether you’re already part of the crew or you’re discovering Black Eyed for the first time, we’ll help you find something worth taking home.
Clarendon Fall Fest
We’ll also be heading to Clarendon Fall Fest for a day of food, drinks, music, and everything that makes fall festival season worth getting out of the house for.
Come find us, try some sauces, and grab a few bottles for football Sundays, Halloween parties, chili nights, or whatever else you’re cooking this fall.
Because pumpkin spice isn’t the only spice that deserves some attention in October.
5 Fall Foods That Deserve a Little More Heat
October isn’t just the beginning of spooky season. It’s the beginning of serious comfort-food season.
Soup pots come back out. Chili starts simmering. Football food becomes an acceptable weekend meal plan.
And almost all of it gets better with hot sauce.
Here are five places we’d start.
1. Chili
Let’s get the obvious one out of the way.
Hot sauce and chili belong together.
A few drops can brighten up a bowl that’s been simmering all afternoon, add another layer of pepper flavor, or rescue the emergency can of chili you pulled out of the pantry because you forgot to plan dinner.
We don’t judge.
The trick is choosing a sauce that complements what’s already in the bowl instead of simply trying to make it hotter. Smoky and savory sauces are especially at home here.
2. Mac & Cheese
Creamy cheese loves heat.
The richness of mac & cheese makes it a perfect canvas for hot sauce, whether you’re adding a few drops to your own bowl or putting several bottles on the table and letting everyone choose their level.
You get creamy, cheesy comfort followed by just enough heat to make you immediately go back for another bite.
That’s a pretty good arrangement.
3. Roasted Squash
Hear us out.
Butternut squash and other roasted fall vegetables develop a natural sweetness in the oven. Pair that sweetness with something spicy, smoky, or tangy and you’ve got a combination that works surprisingly well.
If you’ve never put hot sauce on roasted squash before, consider this your October assignment.
4. Wings
Halloween might be coming, but football season isn’t going anywhere.
That means wings remain firmly on the menu.
Classic buffalo is great, but game day is also the perfect excuse to put a few different sauces on the table and experiment. Toss the wings directly in your favorite or keep them crispy and let everyone sauce their own.
Either way, make more than you think you’ll need.
There are never leftover wings.
5. Soup
Tomato soup. Potato soup. Pumpkin soup. Chicken soup. That soup you made because there were six unrelated things in the refrigerator that needed to be eaten immediately.
Whatever is in the bowl, a little hot sauce can bring acidity, pepper flavor, spice, and depth to the whole thing.
Start with a few drops, give it a stir, taste, and go from there.
You can always add more.
And knowing some of you, you absolutely will.
Bring on the Heat
Fall gets a lot of attention for sweet flavors, but we’re firmly on the other side of the seasonal spectrum.
Give us smoky peppers, big pots of chili, wings on football Sunday, hot sauce on mac & cheese, and something spicy enough to keep us warm when the temperature starts dropping.
Add a brand-new Serrano Seadog to the crew and a couple of weekends on the road, and October is looking pretty good from where we’re sitting.
Keep an eye out for more news on Serrano Seadog, come see us at Rivers of Fire and Clarendon Fall Fest, and don’t be afraid to experiment with a little heat the next time you’re making your favorite fall comfort food.
After all, it’s October.
Trick or heat?
We’ll take the heat.
Fair winds and fiery food,
The Black Eyed Spice Company Crew
